The Project
Tradezone Pty Ltd is a national electrical, solar, HVAC and networking products wholesaler, supplying trade professionals and electricians out of its Scoresby, Victoria facility along with sites across the country. MetroElectro is currently designing and building a rooftop solar system at the site, with zero upfront capital required from Tradezone. The system would be sized to the facility’s roof space and operational load, generating clean energy on site and offsetting a significant share of the business’s grid demand from the moment it’s commissioned.
What Needed Solving
Capex blocker: Solar has an obvious upside, but funding a system outright, or through a traditional lease, usually means a long financing commitment that competes with capital needed elsewhere in the business. That’s often enough to stall the conversation before it starts.
Exposure to rising energy prices: Locked into standard retail electricity contracts, a business has no real protection against ongoing price increases. Every year the bill climbs, with no lever to pull other than reducing usage
How We Approached It
Zero upfront investment: MetroElectro funds, installs, owns and operates the full system, with the agreement term aligned to Tradezone’s lease rather than a rigid long term lock in.
Locked in, below market energy rate: The agreement secures a behind the meter rate that sits below the site’s avoided grid rate, and that rate escalates more slowly than retail electricity prices, protecting Tradezone from future price rises without needing to buy or manage any equipment.
No risk, no hassle: MetroElectro carries all ownership risk, including system performance, maintenance, and end of life, for the life of the agreement, so there’s nothing for Tradezone to manage.
