About the client
APCO is a 100% Australian owned service station company that has been serving local communities for over 55 years. This installation is currently in progress at their site in Mount Gambier, South Australia. The system is a 260 kWp commercial solar system fitted to the site’s rooftop and operational load profile. It is expected to deliver a 35% reduction in site emissions and a 17% reduction in energy costs with zero capital required from the client.
The challenge
High energy costs: Apco runs its service stations around the clock and electricity is one of the biggest operating costs on site. Margins in fuel retail are tight and reducing energy spend without tying up capital was the core problem.
Capex blocker: Solar had come up before but never got far. The upfront cost of a system this size was difficult to justify internally when capital was needed elsewhere in the business.
MetroElectro’s solution
Zero upfront investment: MetroElectro funded and installed the full 260 kWp system on site. No capital was required from Apco and the project moved straight to installation without needing internal budget approval.
Immediate savings from day one: Once the system was commissioned, Apco started paying less for electricity. Over the life of the agreement that works out to roughly a 17% reduction in energy costs and a 35% reduction in site emissions, without Apco owning or managing anything.
