The Project

Bucher Municipal is a global manufacturer of municipal waste collection vehicles with operations across Australia. MetroElectro is currently installing a 99 kWp commercial solar system paired with a 50 kWh battery at their Campbellfield facility in Victoria, a second installation following the completed system at their Caribbean Park site. Once commissioned, the system is expected to deliver a 68% reduction in site emissions with zero capital required from the client.

What needed solving

Capital allocation: Commissioning a solar and battery system of this scale requires significant upfront investment. Without a funding partner willing to absorb that cost entirely, the project could not progress. Bucher Municipal needed a solution that removed capital as a barrier without compromising on system quality or scale.

Technical complexity: Integrating solar generation with battery storage on an operational industrial facility is a genuinely complex undertaking. It requires precise engineering across rooftop load, grid connection, storage capacity and operational profile. Bucher Municipal needed a partner with the technical depth to design and deliver that integration without placing the burden of coordination on the client.

How we approached it

Full project funding and delivery: MetroElectro is assuming the entire capital cost of the 99 kWp solar system and 50 kWh battery installation at Campbellfield. Bucher Municipal required no budget approval and no internal resource to manage procurement. MetroElectro is handling the project from design through to commissioning.

Integrated solar and storage design: The battery and solar system are being engineered as a single solution rather than separate components. This approach optimises generation, reduces peak demand charges and ensures the facility maintains power continuity independent of grid conditions.

Delivered without operational disruption: Installation is being planned and executed around Bucher Municipal’s operational schedule. The facility will continue running without interruption throughout the commissioning process.

What it will deliver

Once commissioned, the Campbellfield system is expected to reduce site emissions by 68%, the strongest projected result across Bucher Municipal’s Australian facilities. Combined with the Caribbean Park site, MetroElectro will have delivered verified emissions reductions across two of their key locations with no capital outlay from the client.

Client Testimonial

MetroElectro allows us to access solar generation and battery storage on facilities we lease. Doing this without MetroElectro would have been cost prohibitive and technically challenging.”
